The Challenge & Project Scope
Tidal stream velocity was running at over 4 knots. The drifting barge was close to hitting the pilot boarding jetty and terminal piling. A duty skipper, captain, and crew had to mobilise immediately in low-visibility night conditions.
The MMS Solution & Deployed Assets
The MMS Marine duty superintendent received the alert via Port Control at 22:15. Our twin-screw workboat tug 'Felaura' was dispatched with a full crew within 35 minutes. Reaching the vessel at 22:55, our skipper executed a precise manoeuvre to come alongside the drifting barge. The crew secured towing lines, established control, and towed the barge safely back to its designated mooring wharf, avoiding any bridge or jetty collisions.
Project Outcome & Verification
The drifting aggregate barge was secured within two hours of the initial alert. Port Control logged the operation as a successful incident mitigation with zero damage to local infrastructure.
