MMS Marine Services Ltd provides professional installation, inspection, and maintenance of yacht club, marina, and trot moorings, river pontoons, and commercial berths. We work with yacht clubs, marinas, private houseboat owners, and commercial ports to secure assets in high-tidal zones, and provide qualified line handling teams for ships arriving and departing.
Vessel Operational Scope & Technical Performance
Ensuring Vessel Security in Strong Tides
The Thames and South East river estuaries experience massive tidal ranges and strong currents. A mooring failure can lead to catastrophic collisions. MMS inspects ground tackle, riser chains, swivels, and buoy connections, replacing worn components before they fail.
Yacht Club, Marina & Trot Mooring Maintenance
We hold maintenance contracts with yacht clubs, marinas, and mooring associations across the Thames and South East, servicing whole trots as well as individual berths. Work covers laying and re-laying trot moorings, renewing risers and strops, replacing buoys and pick-up lines, and issuing a documented condition report for every mooring on the trot.
Pontoon and Jetty Mooring Systems
We support marinas and private developments by deploying heavy concrete sinkers and laying tensioned mooring chains for floating pontoons and residential houseboats, ensuring stable positioning throughout tidal cycles.
Line Handling for Ships
MMS supplies experienced line handling teams for ships berthing, shifting, and departing across Thames and South East wharves. Our crews work to the vessel's master and pilot, running headlines, springs, and sternlines from the quay or by workboat, and remain on station for the duration of the movement.
Chain and Tackle Caliper Testing
Using hydraulic and physical calipers, we measure wear on chain links. If chain thickness has reduced by more than 10-15%, we recommend replacement. We issue detailed inspection reports with photographs for marine insurers.
